The goal of social media is to connect with your core audience. Social channels give you the opportunity to reach potential and current clients/customers showcasing your talents and expertise. Most importantly, you create a conversation and highlight how you can solve their problems.
Many small business owners believe that a high number of followers are good. This can be true that growing large networks of individuals on LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+ and Twitter can be helpful. For instance, if you have more than 500 connections on LinkedIn you can exponentially expand your reach.
But just because you have a high number of followers on Twitter or thousands of likes to your business page does not guarantee you success. Followers and likes will not just come when you start your Twitter account or set-up a business Facebook page. It takes some careful time and planning to rack up a significant number of followers.
So, how do you get more followers on Twitter?
These days I seem to be asked this exact question several times per week. While there is no magic bullet, there are a few ways to naturally grow your following:
- Pay attention to when you’re posting. Content of posts are important, but to gain followers you need to post often. Try to make a schedule of when you will post, and what you will post. Always have ideas ready to go in your editorial calendar. . You should try to mix up what you post. Half of the content should be from your blog, and original posts. The other half should be from other sources, but not from your competitors. The more you post, the more people will have to look at and the more reason they will have to follow you.
- It is also important to interact with the posts of others. You can retweet, like, share, and comment on what your connections post. It will show that you are a valuable and loyal social partner. This will encourage them to do the same for you. On top of that, by interacting with their posts it will expose you to an entirely new network of people that you can connect with. It will show what type of content you are interested in, and hopefully inspire more people to follow you.
- Pick a hashtag and stick to it. You can read about the ins and outs of a hashtag by clicking here. By selecting a hashtag or two and using it when you tweet, you will start to get noticed by others who are looking for you. For instance, if you are a real estate attorney in Bucks County, PA you could tweet information using #realestate and #Buckscounty. Others who frequently search Twitter for that information will find the content you have shared.
Twitter is the one social media outlet where users are always seeking new followers. Like I’ve said before, posting frequently and mixing up your content will never hurt. But to really catch the eye of people who you want following you, you need to show up in their notifications. Retweet and like the posts of those people you want to pay attention to your profile. By interacting with them, you will show you are interested and willing to be a valuable social partner.
Just try to stay active on all of you profiles, and you will gain followers. Set-up an editorial calendar of writing and social media themes to use and set aside time every single day to connect with others and share great information. . By staying consistent with you content and interacting with your pre-existing followers, you will attract more.
